Central Bank of Oman (CBO) as the owner, operator and regulator of theNationalPaymentSystems,developsthenecessaryregulatoryframework, generally through a consultative process, to ensure that different types ofpaymentsystemscatertotheneedsofthevarioussegmentsofsocietyandmarket needs. The aim is to ensure easy accessibility and interoperabilityofthepaymentinfrastructure, whileensuringsafetyandsecurityoftransactionsinitiativessetupthe NationalePaymentGateway. TheNationalePayment Gateway (ePG) provides an operational component of the e-Governance infrastructure and full e-commerce facilities that allow secureonlinepayments(e-payments).Thee-PaymentGatewaysupportsmultipleacquiring banks and will operate as a critical shared service within the e-Governancearchitecture masterplan.
The state-of-the-art e-payment solution supports the delivery of e-services ofthepublic sectorandassiststhe privatesector’ smoveintoe-commerce. Thee-PaymentGateway enablesefficient electronictransactionsinOmanandsimplifythe processingofpaymenttransactions forelectronicserviceswithinthe country.

Expansion of the payment infrastructure all across Oman and engaging increation of rules, regulations, standards and policies that will govern thePayment Systems,administering as owner/operator of various clearing &settlementsystems, providingcreditforparticipants in the paymentsystemand regulating private agents, service providers and other roles has beenanongoingprocess.
Enabling the gateway increased the adoption of e-Services along withelectronic payments, particularly web-enabled payments which are easyandefficient. Thepresenceof sucharobustandsecuree-PaymentGatewa yenablese-Governmentshared servicestobepaidforelectronically using major local and international credit & debit cards, andother electronic payment instruments. The gateway currently accepts allinternationalcreditcards,debitcardsincludingVisa,MasterCard,Amex andDinercards.
