Objective

The Oman Broadband Company is the Government arm mandated withbuilding and developing the necessary broadband infrastructure in theSultanateasstipulatedinthethirdpillaroftheNationalBroadbandStrategy. OmanBroadbandworksintandemwiththeconcernedauthorities andprivatesectorpartnerstodeliverthatvision,therebyfuture proofingtheonlineeconomyandinvestinginthedigitalpotentialofthenation.

TheCompanyhastranslatedtheambitiousgoalsoftheNationalBroadband Strategyintodevelopmentplansthattakeintoconsiderationtherequired network framework and expected implementation timeframe. ThedevelopmentplanbenchmarkscurrentbroadbandservicesintheSultanatein comparison with the regional and international best practice standards,bothintermsofe-readinessandthereadyavailability ofbroadband serviceswithin populated areas.

Theplantorolloutthebroadbandinfrastructurealsotakesintoconsideration keyusagepatterns,populationdensitiesandprojectedstatistics that chart the future demand for hi-speed broadband services intheSultanate.

As such, Oman Broadband’s development plan aims to rapidly increaseOman’sinternationalrankingintermsoftheavailabilityoffixed broadbandservices and the distribution of broadband services per 100 capita incomparisonwiththeinternationalandregionalaverage.

The rollout of the broadband fibre-optic network will create the necessaryinfrastructureinallgovernoratestoenableserviceprovider stoprovidethehighspeed/highcapacityconnectivitytocitizensandresidents, aswellasforenterprises and government institutions.

Oman Broadband aims to meet the evolving needs of the market in ordertokeeppacewiththerapidadvancementofICTtechnologies,aswitnessedin the current century; this in order to ensure that a global standard ofservices are delivered for citizens and residents in all governorates of theSultanatefor the yearsahead.
