The EUDI Wallet Regulation Proposal aims to enable the large-scale deployment of a user-controlled trusted digital identity in the form of a European Digital Identity Wallet (EUDI wallet) enabling every citizen to master their online interactions and to monitor the use of their personal data. The EUDI wallet will revolutionise how citizens and businesses can digitally identify themselves when accessing public and private services throughout Europe, using their smartphone in a secure and convenient manner for travel, health, banking, education and more.
Target is 100% coverage for Union citizens that by 2030
Not yet adopted. Other electronic identity means have been in place since 2016
The Proposal is accompanied by a Recommendation for a common EU toolbox for a coordinated approach towards this European framework
First version of the Architecture and Reference Framework published on GitHub (in February and April)
A reference implementation of the EUDI Wallet App for Android and iOS platforms will be released under Open Source License at Q1 2024 on GitHub
